About the project
Naturalist adds over 200 animals to Minecraft, turning quiet biomes into living ecosystems. Every corner of the world gets new residents, from capybaras and giraffes to the vultures circling overhead. Everything is designed in Minecraft’s vanilla style, so every mob looks and feels like it was always part of the game.
It started as a Java mod that grew past 50 million downloads, and when add-ons first came to the Marketplace, Naturalist was one of the first available. It's been a fan favorite on both platforms ever since!

2026 Animal Vote
We let the community pick Naturalist's next mobs. Orangutan, koala, meerkat, and seagull went head to head over ten days of voting in the Starfish Discord. The orangutan took the crown with the meerkat right behind, and the best part is all four are getting added anyway. The top two arrive in the next update, the seagull and koala in the one after.
