About the project
Skyblock Showdown was a live competition we created with Boom.tv for Verizon All Access, a Verizon and Xbox event where 32 streamers in teams of four raced for a $40,000 prize pool. It's Skyblock like you've never seen it: 37 challenges and custom minigames that compress an entire Minecraft playthrough into one action-packed sprint to the final boss.
The twist was the setback system. Teams could send chaos straight to an opponent's island, so no lead was ever safe. We prototyped, built, and hosted the whole event on our own servers, and ran it live on the day.
