Deer
Deer are common passive mobs that supply venison and are found in forest biomes and cherry groves.
Spawning
Deer spawn in groups of 1-3 above grass blocks at a light level of 9 or more in forest biomes and cherry groves.
Drops
An adult deer drops upon death:
´- 1-2 venison or cooked venison if killed while on fire. The maximum amount is increased by 1 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 1-5 with Looting III.
Item drops can be edited with a data pack via editingloot_tables/entities/deer.json in Naturalist’s data files.
Killing a baby deer yields no items nor experience.
Behavior
Deer run from players who come near, but can be “tempted” and bred with apples. If the Player moves without crouching while the deer is tempted this way, it will spook and run away.
- This is similar to how Cats approach players holding fish.
When deer run away from Players, it triggers a chain reaction and all nearby deer will also run.
Deer will occasionally lean down and eat grass blocks, similar to sheep.
