Rhino
Spawning
Rhinos spawn in groups of 3-4 above grass blocks at a light level of 9 or more in savanna biomes
Depending on the biome they spawn in, lizards may have different appearances.
Spawn biomes can be edited with a data pack via adding or removing biomes fromtags/worldgen/has_rhino.json in Naturalist’s data files.
Drops
An adult rhino drops upon death:
- 1-2 leather. The maximum is increased by one per level of Looting, for a maximum of 1-5 with Looting III.
Item drops can be edited with a data pack via editingloot_tables/entities/rhino.json in Naturalist’s data files.
Killing a baby rhino yields no items nor experience.
Behavior
Rhinos are relatively docile but will begin attacking players who attack them or their calves.
If attacked by players, they will scrape their foot on the ground a few times before quickly charging in a straight line. Upon hitting the player, they will be knocked into the air as well as backwards, a bit similar to iron golems.
If blocked with a shield, this attack will in turn stun them, giving the player time to run away or attack.
When charging, rhinos break fragile blocks determined by thenaturalist:tags/blocks/rhino_charge_breakable.json tag if the mobGriefing gamerule is set to true. By default, this includes things like grass, flowers, and crops, but it can be edited to include more or to remove these blocks.
If attacked by non-player mobs, rhinos will attack them normally without charging, simply continuously hitting them with their horn.
