Snake
Spawning
Snakes spawn in solitary groups of 1 above grass blocks at a light level of 9 or more in various biomes, including but not limited to forest, plains and swamps.
Depending on the biome they spawn in, snakes may have different appearances.
Spawn biomes can be edited with a data pack via adding or removing biomes fromtags/worldgen/has_snake.json in Naturalist’s data files.
Snakes have a 20% chance to spawn with an item in their stomach. Below are the chances of the item it will be after the spawn chance.
- 5% — Rabbit Foot
- 10% — Slime Ball
- 15% — Feather
- 30% — Raw Rabbit
If none of these items are “chosen” for the snake’s item, it will always default to Raw Chicken.
Drops
Snakes drop upon death:
Item drops can be edited with a data pack via editingloot_tables/entities/snake.json in Naturalist’s data files.
Behavior
If a snake has no item in its stomach, it will search out dropped items that it can eat and will consume them. After 6,000 ticks or 5 minutes, the item will be digested and its stomach will be emptied.
Items drop from Snakes when harmed like they’re spitting up their food, and upon doing this the item will have an 80 tick (4 second) timer before it can be picked up. During this time, the snake will attack the player or mob that hurt it.
Snakes sleep from the ticks of 12,000-18,000 and 23,000 to 28,000. If attacked while sleeping, they will wake up angry, and will not go back to sleep for a little while after either losing range or killing what attacked them.
Rattlesnakes rattle when players come close to them.
